The Untold Story of Broccoli



BROCOLI
Broccoli is usually boiled or steamed, but may be eaten raw and has become popular as a raw vegetable in hors-d'oeuvre trays. Although boiling has been shown to reduce the levels of suspected anticancer compounds in broccoli, other preparation methods such as steaming, microwaving, and stir-frying have not been shown to reduce the presence of these compounds.
Broccoli is high in vitamins C, K, and A, as well as dietary fiber; it also contains multiple nutrients with potent anti-cancer properties, such as diindolylmethane and small amounts of selenium. A single serving provides more than 30 mg of Vitamin C and a half-cup provides 52 mg of Vitamin C. The 3,3'-Diindolylmethane found in broccoli is a potent modulator of the innate immune response system with anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-cancer activity.
Broccoli also contains the compound glucoraphanin, which can be processed into an anticancer compound sulforaphane, though the benefits of broccoli are greatly reduced if the vegetable is boiled more than ten minutes. A high intake of broccoli has been found to reduce the risk of aggressive prostate cancer. Broccoli consumption has also shown that it is beneficial in the prevention of heart disease.

The Untold Health Benefit of Flaxseed


Some call it one of the most powerful plant foods on the planet. There’s some evidence it can help reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. That’s quite a tall order for a tiny seed that’s been around for centuries: flaxseed.
Flaxseed was cultivated in Babylon as early as 3000 BC, according to the Flax Council of Canada. By the 8th century, King Charlemagne believed so strongly in the health benefits of flaxseed that he passed laws requiring his subjects to consume it. Fast-forward 13 centuries and some experts would say we have preliminary research to back up what Charlemagne suspected all those years ago.
These days, flaxseed is found in all kinds of foods, from crackers to frozen waffles to oatmeal. In the first 11 months of 2006, 75 new products were launched that listed flax or flaxseed as an ingredient. Not only has consumer demand for flaxseed gone up, agricultural use has also increased -- to feed all those chickens laying eggs that are higher in omega-3 fatty acids.
Although flaxseed contains all sorts of healthy components, it owes its healthy reputation primarily to three ingredients:
• Omega-3 essential fatty acids, "good" fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects. Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s.
• Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidant qualities. Flaxseed contains 75- 800 times more lignans than other plant foods
• Fiber. Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble types.

Although Lilian Thompson, PhD, an internationally known flaxseed researcher from the University of Toronto, says she wouldn’t call any of the health benefits of flax "well established," research indicates that flax’s possible health benefits include reducing the risks of certain cancers as well as cardiovascular disease and lung disease. Cancer
Recent studies have suggested that flaxseed may have a protective effect against cancer, particularly breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer. At least two of the components in flaxseed seem to contribute, says Kelley C. Fitzpatrick, M.Sc., director of health and nutrition with the Flax Council of Canada.
In animal studies, the plant omega-3 fatty acid found in flaxseed, called ALA, inhibited tumor incidence and growth.
Further, the lignans in flaxseed may provide some protection against cancers that are sensitive to hormones. Some studies have suggested that exposure to lignans during adolescence helps reduce the risk of breast cancer, Thompson says.
Lignans may help protect against cancer by:
• Blocking enzymes that are involved in hormone metabolism.
• Interfering with the growth and spread of tumor cells.
Some of the other components in flaxseed also have antioxidant properties, which may contribute to protection against cancer and heart disease.

What You Need to Know About Garlick


GARLICK
Garlic is a vegetable (Allium sativum) that belongs to the Allium class of bulb-shaped plants, which also includes onions, chives, leeks, and scallions. Garlic is used for flavoring in cooking and is unique because of its high sulfur content. In addition to sulfur, garlic also contains arginine, oligosaccharides, flavonoids, and selenium, all of which may be beneficial to health

The word garlic comes from Old English garleac, meaning "spear leek." Dating back over 6,000 years, it is native to Central Asia, and has long been a staple in the Mediterranean region, as well as a frequent seasoning in Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Egyptians worshipped garlic and placed clay models of garlic bulbs in the tomb of Tutankhamen. Garlic was so highly-prized, it was even used as currency. Folklore holds that garlic repelled vampires, protected against the Evil Eye, and warded off jealous nymphs said to terrorize pregnant women and engaged maidens.

Garlic's health benefits and medicinal properties have long been known. Garlic has long been considered a herbal "wonder drug", with a reputation in folklore for preventing everything from the common cold and flu to the Plague! It has been used extensively in herbal medicine (phytotherapy, sometimes spelt phitotherapy). Raw garlic is used by some to treat the symptoms of acne and there is some evidence that it can assist in managing high cholesterol levels. It can even be effective as a natural mosquito repellent.

The National Cancer Institute of the US National Institute of Health said Preliminary studies suggest that garlic consumption may reduce the risk of developing several types of cancer, especially cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. They stressed that most of their studies evaluated different types of garlic preparations and used them in varying amounts.

In general, a stronger tasting clove of garlic has more sulphur content and hence more medicinal value it's likely to have. Some people have suggested that organically grown garlic tends towards a higher sulphur level and hence greater benefit to health. In my experience it certainly tastes better so I buy organic whenever possible whether or not it's best for my health. Some people prefer to take garlic supplements. These pills and capsules have the advantage of avoiding garlic breath.

Modern science has shown that garlic is a powerful natural antibiotic, albeit broad-spectrum rather than targeted. The body does not appear to build up resistance to the garlic, so its positive health benefits continue over time.

Studies have shown that garlic - especially aged garlic - can have a powerful antioxidant effect. Antioxidants can help to protect the body against damaging "free radicals". Raw garlic is very strong, so eating too much could produce problems, for example irritation of or even damage to the digestive tract.

There are a few people who are allergic to garlic. Symptoms of garlic allergy include skin rash, temperature and headaches. Also, garlic could potentially disrupt anti-coagulants, so it's best avoided before surgery. Research published in 2001 concluded that garlic supplements can cause a potentially harmful side effect when combined with a type of medication used to treat HIV/AIDS.

ARE LEFT OVER ONIONS POISONOUS?


A friend sent in this today. Though not yet verified, I feel I should share it with our readers. There is nothing wrong in being careful.

I have used an onion which has been left in the fridge, and sometimes I don't use a whole one at one time, so save the other half for later.

Now with this info, I have changed my mind....will buy smaller onions in the future.

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of mayonnaise. Mullins is huge, and is owned by 11 brothers and sisters in the Mullins family. My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO.

Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.

The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed. He's one of the brothers Ed is a chemistry expert and is involved in developing most of the sauce formula. He's even developed sauce formula for McDonald's.

Keep in mind that Ed is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially- made Mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked about the quaint essential picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on the table and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade Mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the onions, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained, onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!)

Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

So, how's that for news? Take it for what you will. I (the author) am going to be very careful about my onions from now on. For some reason, I see a lot of credibility coming from a chemist and a company that produces millions of pounds of mayonnaise every year.'

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions .Please remember it is dangerous to cut onions and try to use it to cook the next day ,it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates Toxic bacteria which may cause Adverse Stomach infections because of excess Bile secretions and even Food poisoning.

Moringa was Helpful When I had Cancer: It Helps in Rebuilding Immunity in Miraculous Way that Fights ALL DISEASES!


Moringa oleifera, or the horseradish tree, is a pan-tropical species that is known by such regional names as benzolive, drumstick tree, kelor, marango, mlonge, mulangay, nébéday, saijhan, and sajna. In Nigeria, the Hausas call it Bagaruwar maka, Bagaruwar masar, Barambo, Koraukin zaila, Rimin nacara, Rimin turawa, Samarin danga, Shipka hali, Shuka halinka, Zogall and Zogalla-gandi. The Igbos call it Odudu oyibo, Okwe oyibo, Okwe olu, Uhe, Oku-ghara-ite and Okochi egbu while the Yorubas call it Adagba malero, Ewele, Ewé ilé, Ewe igbálé, Idagbo monoyé ("the tree which grows crazily").

Over the past two decades, many reports have appeared in mainstream scientific journals describing its nutritional and medicinal properties. Its utility as a non-food product has also been extensively described, but will not be discussed herein, (e.g. lumber, charcoal, fencing, water clarification, lubricating oil).
India's ancient tradition of ayurveda says the leaves of the Moringa tree prevent 300 diseases. Modern science confirms the basic idea. Modern research has found that Moringa leaves, as well as other parts of the tree, have been used since ancient times in systems of traditional medicine in several cultures. Moringa has been used for inflammation, malnutrition, wounds, diabetes, iron deficiency, high blood pressure and other conditions.

Three non-governmental organizations in particular—Trees for Life, Church World Service and Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization—have advocated Moringa as “natural nutrition for the tropics.” Leaves can be eaten fresh, cooked, or stored as dried powder for many months without refrigeration, and reportedly without loss of nutritional value. Moringa is especially promising as a food source in the tropics because the tree is in full leaf at the end of the dry season when other foods are typically scarce.

Moringa pods can be cooked in a variety of ways. Until they become too woody to snap, they can be cooked much like green beans or asparagus. Choose fresh, dark green leaves. They taste better and are more nutritious.

Remove the stems from the leaves. Cook the leaves as you would any other green leafy vegetable, like spinach.

In India, people add Moringa leaves to curries and soups, or even pickle them. We suggest adding the leaves to traditional foods in your area. This seems to be more acceptable than "new" types of food.

Scientific research has proven that these humble leaves are in fact a powerhouse of nutritional value. John Hopkins University studies now point to the elevation of a variety of detoxication and antioxidant enzymes and biomarkers as a result of treatment with Moringa or with phytochemicals isolated from Moringa (39,40,76,131). Antibiosis and cancer prevention are two examples of areas of Moringa research for which the existing scientific evidence appears to be particularly strong.

Moringa leaves contain more Vitamin A than carrots, more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach, more Vitamin C than oranges, and more potassium than bananas,” and that the protein quality of Moringa leaves rivals that of milk and eggs.

 Unfortunately, even while science sings the praise of Moringa leaves, this vital information has not reached the people who need it most.
 The ayurvedic medicine of India has many uses for Moringa tree products, such as a natural antibiotic, an aid in childbirth, for treating liver disorders, and many other uses.
 Villagers in Oman use Moringa oil to treat stomach disorders. They also use it in perfume and hair oil.
 In Haiti, villagers boil Moringa flowers in water and drink the tea as a powerful cold remedy.
 Dried Moringa leaves treat diarrhea in Malawi, Africa.

Moringa leaf powder can be used as a tea, added to beverages, sprinkled on food or taken in capsules. It can be used in cooking, but high temperatures destroy some of the nutrients. A teaspoonful or so can be placed directly under the tongue and washed down with water, but care must be taken not to breathe the fine powder.
Moringa leaf powder is loaded with nutrition, easy to store and easy to use. The ways to incorporate Moringa leaf powder into the diet are truly endless.


YOU GROW IT ANYWHERE

The Moringa tree is native to northern India, but today it is common throughout the tropical and sub-tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Moringa trees grow easily from seeds or cuttings. They grow quickly even in poor soil and bloom 8 months after planting.

To grow from a cutting:
After the trees have stopped producing fruits each year, branches need to be cut off so that fresh growth may take place. These branches are excellent for growing new trees.

1. Make a cutting at least 1" (2.5cm) in diameter and at least six feet (1.8m) long.
2. Dig a hole 3 ft. (1m) x 3 ft. (1m) and 3 ft. (1m) deep.
3. Place cutting in this hole and fill with a mixture of soil, sand and composted manure. Pack firmly around base of the cutting. Form a slight dome or cone shape, sloping down away from the cutting. It is desirable that water not touch the stem of the new tree.
4. Water generously, but do not drown the cutting in water.
In India, the custom is to put some cow dung on top of the open end of the cutting. This is an excellent way to protect the cutting from pests.

To grow from seed:
Moringa seeds have no dormancy periods and can be planted as soon as they are mature.

In the ground:
It is best to plant the seeds directly where the tree is intended to grow and not transplant the seedling. The young seedlings are fragile and often cannot survive transplanting. To plant seeds directly in the ground:
1. Choose an area with light and sandy soil, not heavy with clay or water-logged.
2. Dig holes 1 ft (30 cm) square and 1 ft deep. Back-fill the holes with loose soil. Compost or manure will help the tree grow better, even though Moringa trees can grow in poor soils.
3. Plant 3 to 5 seeds in each hole, 2 in. (5 cm) apart. Plant the seeds no deeper than three times the width of the seed (approximately ½ in. or 1.5 cm -- the size of one's thumbnail).
4. Keep the soil moist enough so that the top soil will not dry and choke the emerging saplings, but it should not too wet or else the seeds can drown and rot.
5. When the saplings are four to six inches tall, keep the healthiest sapling in the ground and remove the rest. Termites and nematodes can kill a young sapling. Take measures to protect saplings from these two dangers.
Note: If the soil is heavy, dig a larger hole of up to 3 ft (90 cm) in diameter and 3 ft deep, and backfill with 1 part sand and 2 parts original soil. Added compost or manure will help.

In Plastic Bags:
When it is not possible to plant directly in the ground, use the following method:

1. Fill seedling bags with light soil mixture, i.e. 3 parts soil to 1 part sand.
2. Plant two or three seeds in each bag, ¼ in. (0.5 cm) deep.
3. Keep moist but not too wet. Germination will occur within two weeks.
4. Remove extra seedlings, leaving one in each bag.
Seedlings can be transplanted after four to six months when they are 2-3 ft (60-90 cm) high.

-You can eat cabbage raw, in a salad, or cooked in different styles. Cabbage gives you lots of vitamin C, and also vitamin E, A, B, minerals and fibers.

You Can Prevent Cancer Attack


You don't have to go through what I have gone through. You can prevent it now by avoiding what cancer feeds on:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet , Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes t o nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water--best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

f. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.

g. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

h. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

In my previous write-up, I took time to stress on how taking of fruit and vegetables boost ones immunity which in turn help to fight all kinds of diseases including terminal ones like cancer. I is important at this point to emphasise on the other variables that goes with this dieting.
Praying Through the Battles of Life
Proverb 21:31 tells us that the horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD. This passage can be inferred to mean that dwelling on the fruit and vegetable therapy without getting God involved may not yield positive result. Naturally, I love praying.
When the doctor told me I had fibroid, I immediately went into prayers and fasting. My family and friends across the world fasted and prayed for me. I attended Christia programmes and was quick to solicit for prayers which the benevolently did. I visited healing and deliverance ministers to be prayed for. Unfortunately, as the more I asked God for His miracle touch, the worst my situation grew. It can be very pleasant if one pray and get result to his prayers speedily. I was already used to getting such speedy result in time past but this time around, my health situation seemingly defied prayers. I however persisted in prayers.
Close minister friends who knew kept calling to encourage me. Day and night, I wept before the Lord in prayers. I consistently felt His presence each time I prayed but wondered why my condition was getting worse. I asked myself several questions. It was very devastating. I recalled how profusely I was loosing blood.
I watched the programme of Benny Hinn and other men of God on television and saw how people were testifying of their healing. I kept telling myself: “I shall receive my healing and also testify one day.” The story of the woman in Matt. 15:26 were always in my mind. I reflected on how she persisted. She held to Jesus to heal her daughter even when Jesus referred to her as a DOG. She knew what she wanted so she did not take offence. Her story was a great encouragement. If the woman was regarded as dog and yet was a beneficiary of God’s healing power, I knew that the daughter/father relationship I had with God was superior and no matter how long my miracle tarry, I was going to be made whole.
I did not only pray but continued to make positive confession. I said it to myself hat God who has done it for her will also do it for me. I was so sure that one day I will wake up one day to discover that the fibroid had disappeared. While I was still trusting God for healing for the fibroid, the Doctors discovered a lump on my breast and removed it. It was like the situation was deteriorating. The lump was taken to laboratory and tested. The result was cancer. The lump surfaced again and this time, major surgery requiring the removal of the breast was recommended.
In the face of all these, I have no other option but to hold Him very firmly. I was persuaded that He is Jehovah Rapha – The Great Healer. He is the Balm in Gilead. I encouraged myself with more passages from the Scripture. I am aware that when Jesus was invited to attend to Lazarus by Mary and Martha, He never showed up until Lazarus died. I refused to give up. You may be going through the same experience like I did now, please don’t give up. Keep holding unto Him. Lazarus was brought back to life after he had gotten rotten in the grave. Your case is not beyond God’s healing power. If He did it for me, He will do it for you.
In January 2007, Bishop Omiunu called from Benin that the Lord said he should tell me that He has given them my flesh but not my soul and that I should go for the operation. Before this message I had dreamt that I was operated.
After the removal of my breast the doctor came out with further complicating report. The cancer cell had spread to the second breast and in the arm pit. He advised I go for the chemotherapy but I refused and continued to seek God. If you seek the Lord you will definitely find Him. He is faithful. We held prayer vigil in the house every single night. I went into two months of vegetable fasting and praying. The result was tremendous.
The place of prayer cannot be overemphasised. Let us not be weary of God. It will come in His time. He is compassionate God that is moved by our tears. Even if we are to take drugs, God must be involved in the drugs, but I have come to discover that not all sickness require drugs. We need to seek the face of God to know what to do at every point. He feels proud when we trust in Him knowing that He is able. Glory be to God, today I am completely whole. The entire cancer cell in my body had completely disappeared. This can only be God!

Confronting Diabetes

The term diabetes, when not specified, refers to diabetes mellitus, a serious metabolic disorder characterised by defects in the body’s use of carbohydrates. The other kind of diabetes is diabetes insipidus, which is quite a different and relatively rare condition, in which an individual passes large quantities of pale, dilute urine, with consequent dehydration and excessive thirst.

Diabetes mellitus is a syndrome in which the basic defect is the absence or shortage of the hormone called insulin. This hormone is carried by the blood to the kidneys, where it limits the outflow of water in the urine.

In Diabetes mellitus, an organ in the body (called the pancreas) is found not to be functioning properly. Insulin is a hormone produced by the Beta cells in the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. Insulin is carried by the blood to all parts of the body. The body’s cells use glucose (blood sugar) as their fuel.

Any defect in this process, either in the pancreas, where insulin is being produced, or at the sites of attachment of insulin to the cells, would interfere with the body’s use of fuel to produce energy.

Apart from the malfunctioning of the pancreas, one other cause of this disorder is unbalanced diet. Most of us consume denatured food in one way or the other. Also, food additives and unhealthy drinks, whether soft drinks, teas, coffee or liquor may predispose one to metabolic imbalance.

The symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, inordinate appetite, constant hunger, mental depression and great thirst.

In holistic lifecare, it is strongly advised that imported styles of living must be looked into especially on the use of food additives and colourants in fast foods and so-called take-away. Heavy starchy foods should be cut down drastically, if they cannot be avoided, pending total recovery from the ailment.

As we make efforts to repair a malfunctioning pancreas, there are some fruits and vegetables known to be helpful. These include carrots, paw-paw, cucumber, onions, garlic and lettuce, combined with soya-milk mixed with guinea-corn pap or porridge.

The Holistic remedy that has been popularly suggested for the control of Diabetes is a combination of the natural extracts of some herbs scientifically called Anchomanes difformis, Pergularia daemia, Vinca rosea and Viscum album

Be Careful With What You Eat


Our body is given to us by God to care for. God’s desire is for this body to be healthy. To attain this sound health, we must be careful with what we eat. Since the devil is out to oppose God’s pleasure for our lives, he presents those food that are harmful to our body as very attractive. This piece is a warning to be careful with what we eat. It is a continuation of the article in our last edition of health Issues titled: Food or Fooled?

Unfortunately most flour in the stores/market has been processed and all nutrients removed. This then is used to make foods like meat pies, cakes, pizza, hotdog etc. These are referred to as junk foods. They are generally prepared with unhealthy white flour, saturated fat and white sugar. They should be avoided from a health standpoint. The more they are eaten the more they cause diseases like diabetics, cancer, caries (dental), cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. Use of baking powder is also harmful to the body. Natural yeast is preferable. Please eat whole flour meals brown bread and brown pasta not white refined flour.

FRIED FOODS
Fried meals are the tastiest of all. When I was young, I really enjoyed meals like fried yam, chips and fried meat and fish. The tomatoes of the stew were often well fried with no tomatoes juice to make it taste sour. All these looked so “good” then. With experience, I have realized that fried foods are dangerous to our health. The smoke from the frying causes cancer just like cigarette and frying food destroys the nutrients. And certain ones form toxic substances which are carcinogenic and promote the development of malignant tumors. Tumors like breast cancer, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, etc can be noticed especially in women. Foods should rather be boiled or steamed instead of being fried for consumption.

MILK
Undoubtedly, milk is one of the most complete single foods. The human milk which God provided for the human species is the richest in monoun saturated fatty acids similar to those found in nuts and seeds. These fatty acids are necessary for the development of the human brain. When we talk of milk, people think more about the cow milk. It is widely believed that cow milk also contains nutrient that helps in growth. People take it a lot but studies have shown that unlike human milk, the several diseases occur as a result of milk intake. Examples of such diseases are arteries, lymphoma, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer and coronary diseases. Saturated fats in cow milk foster cholesterol production in the body.

If you must take milk at all, you are advised to take non-fat milk. The protein in milk called casein increases the cholesterol level, constipation and diarrhea. Milk causes digestive disorders in many adults. Patients that have undergone stomach surgery, experiences what is known as dumping syndrome some 15-30 minutes after milk intake. It causes nausea, dizziness, cramps, etc. These symptoms will disappear when you avoid milk and sweetened foods. Also, many livestock keeper injects Bovine Somatotropin (a hormone for increase in milk production). It has negative effect in human health because part of it is found in the milk is a very good alternative to animal milk.

SOFT DRINKS
These are carbonated drinks with no nutritional value. They are made from sugar and other unnatural ingredients which are harmful to the body. They consist of carbon dioxide which God has ordained man to breathe out, acids which are harmful to the blood, etc. Fruit flavoured drinks has so much of additives like preservatives, coloring, flavoring, etc. We have caffeine in cola drinks. Diet/light drinks contain aspartame which is synthetic sweeteners. All these are harmful to the body. You are advice to desist from taking them because they destroy God's temple your body given to you to care for. They weaken the immune system and eventually lead to untimely death. They don't kill you in one day. They are like drops of water that form an ocean, which drowns a man.

RAW FOODS
As I write this piece , what comes to my mind is exotic breed birds we popularly refer to as 'agric' and local chicken. If we are familiar with these two species of birds, it will serve as good illustration. The 'agric' birds are fed on growth hormone for few months and are ready for food. Some broilers take 10-12weeks to be ready. They are prone to diseases, (epidemic) bird flu and dirty. Hundreds of them can die in one day leaving their owners heart broken.

The layers lay eggs that are twice the size of the natural organic eggs. It is so because of the hormones they are fed on and therefore are big for nothing. This type of chicken cannot endure stress and for any reason if they have to run they just take two or three steps and lay on the ground. The local chicken is not so. It feeds on organic raw foods. It does not get sick easily. Not bothered by bird flu, endure stress, can run and ready for food in about 2years i.e. 96weeks as compared to just 12weeks.

This is the situation with man who feeds on raw foods (either fruits or vegetables) and those who feed on cooked and fried junks foods. These days we have so many 'agric chicken' children in the entire globe. They cannot think properly. They cannot go through the stress of studying and sitting for examination. Certificates are bought for them by their parents. What a shame! They behave and grow like 'agric chickens' and we are so proud of them. A girl of 8-9years of age has grown breasts. The fault is not theirs but the parents who will not feed them with the right kinds of food - the proper diet that will develop them and keep them alert. Thank God that the medical scientists have come to realize that God have put all essential nutrient in the mothers breast milk for the babies mental and physical development.

It is true that we are brought up to eat cooked fried foods but we can allow ourselves to be “born again” in our diets. We are born into sin but we will not remain sinners the moment we realize it. We seek for Gods forgiveness and change our ways.

Dan 1:8, 16-20 “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

One of the wonders of God is embedded in raw vegetables and fruits. All raw food contains three elements namely: natural distilled or pure water, roughages or fiber and nutrients. The body of man is 70% water and raw fruits and vegetables contain the purest water for man's use. Roughages or fiber is necessary to keep the colon clean and function properly. It is liken to broom or brush. Lack of it causes constipation. Nutrients are the smallest element present in raw fruits/vegetables but when received raw into the body provide all we need to be properly nourished.

At a point my daughter was always complaining of fever. One day I decided to flush her bowel using ENEMA method. I mixed warm water and raw lemon juice together which I used in flushing her bowel. I gave her a bowl of vegetable salad with no salad cream, egg, mayonnaise or baked beans. She woke up the next day okay and since then she has not complained about fever. Part of our meals in the house is raw fruits /vegetables. Eating vegetables salad has become a time of joy on our table now than when we first started. Initially it was not fun for my family but I persisted. Our best soup was okro. I insisted on the half cooked vegetable soups made up of all kinds of vegetables like bitter leaf, water leaf, sweet potato leaf, spinach and moringa. I discovered children generally do not like it but they must be taught. At times I mix some of the vegetable especially leaves blend with water melon, sweet melon (to sweetened), sieve and the family drinks.

Dr. George Malkmus book “GOD'S WAY TO ULTIMATE HEALTH” emphasized so much on the need to eat raw fruits and vegetable. God has arranged it in such a way that at each season of the year, we have different types of fruit such as mangoes, guavas, oranges, pineapple, grapes, water melon, sweet melon, lemon, etc. There will always be one of these fruit in season at each point in time.

When I decided to go into my first two-month of eating only fruits and vegetable, my husband tried to persuade me not to because I was weak and frail to do that. I told him that 'by two months time I will be the healthiest person in the house'. When I did a medical check- in South Africa including test of my blood, the Doctor exclaimed: “your blood is beautiful” . It worked for me. I am a living testimony.

Sometimes ago, I traveled to visit my dad and he was complaining about the BP drugs he was using and that he was tired of taking the drugs. He had problem sleeping at night. Most times, he will not be able to sleep until around 11pm and will wake up between 1-2am with a terrible headache. I stressed the need for him to dwell more on fruits and vegetables. He accepted. Two weeks later he called me to say that he sleeps by 9pm and wake up by 5:00am and his BP has gone down. Since then his diet is dominated by fruits and vegetables.

AGEING AND MENOPAUSE
Some of us are trying so hard to remove wrinkles from our faces. You do not need cream to do that. You only need change of diet. Everywhere I go people say I am looking younger instead of older. “I simply say it is the glory of God”. Raw fruits and vegetables rejuvenate the body cells. They contain a lot of vitamin E.

Menopause was never a problem in the life of woman of the Bible, not even their menstrual cycle. But today the story is different. What went wrong? Young women complain of pre-menstrual syndrome or menstrual pain as it is popularly known. While the older women complain of various ailments at menopause ranging from, hot flush, arthritis, depression, headaches, high blood pressure, etc. As a young lady I dreaded my menstrual period. My prayer always was “God please let this cup pass over me”.

Before I started having my babies I will vomit, roll on the bed in pains. I was rushed to the hospital on several occasions by my parents only to be told by doctors that it is nothing serious. I was being given pain killer drugs. When I started having my babies the pain reduced. A friend told me of the pain on waist and breast due to menstrual period. I simply told her to take more of raw fruits and vegetables in her diet, it worked like magic. She called the day her next period came that “I cannot believe I am in my period without pain and the usual nagging. God is indeed interested in our diet”.

The Healing Power of Laughter


One of the greatest stress relievers God has given us is laughter. It not only makes us feel better, but it actually releases healing throughout our system. When we laugh, it restores and rejuvenates what the pressures of life have taken out.

Proverbs 17:22 puts it like this, "A happy heart is like a good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing." Notice, when we're good-natured and full of joy, taking time to laugh and play, it's like taking a good medicine. That's what helps us to stay healthy. People that laugh regularly are 40% less likely to have a heart attack than people that don't laugh regularly. Laughter triggers the right side of the brain, which helps release creativity and helps us to make better decisions.

There is too much sickness in our world today. Much of it is related to sadness. It's directly related to the fact that we don't smile enough. We live uptight and stressed out.

But even during trials and hard times, God says to us, "I've got a solution. In difficulties, cheer up. In famine, laugh. Keep your joy." You can laugh your way to victory, to better health and to more energy.

God knows the end of the story. He knows the final outcome. The good news is you and I win. God always causes us to triumph. We should have a spring in our step, a smile on our face, joy in our hearts and unshakeable faith. God's plan for our lives is for good and He has the answer to our every question. Knowing this, we can laugh at the days ahead!
